A New Sport

  • 11 months, 1 week and 5 days after surgery

The hardest part of this injury has been knowing deep down that I will give up football.

If I am honest, I haven’t fully committed to that decision yet. I wanted to write about it here but I found it too painful to 100% confirm it.

I have been playing some walking football and it scratches the itch, but it’s not quite the same.

In the future I will write more about acceptance, letting go, and giving up on something you truly love.. but for now I have made some positive steps by starting a new sport.

I have been learning to play Padel for the last few weeks and it has taken my mind off football.

It’s early days, but this feels like a sport I can really get stuck into and use to keep active.

There is also a strong social aspect to Padel and it’s growing popularity means there are plenty of people to play with.

This feels like a big step forward and a new chapter in my life. I will always miss playing football, but this can help me accept that the risk is no longer worth the reward.
