Running Outdoors

287 days since injury

I have been running cautiously on the treadmill for a couple of weeks, and today I progressed that to an outdoor run.

It was a beautiful afternoon in Dénia. The summer is almost here and the air is warm, but not too hot. I ran by the sea, on a hard promenade by the sea, with the Montgó Mountain in the background.

It felt normal and natural, just like the first run on the treadmill. My training with Jose has prepared me well – I felt strong and able to do more.

For this run, I alternated between 60 seconds of running and 30 seconds of walking. The run was a total of 4.5km over about 30 minutes.

I now record my workouts with the Gentler App. It’s a great way to monitor your recovery and overall well-being in relation to the exercises you are doing. The app (and mascot Yoghurt!) will tell you whether to push harder today or rest if you have been overdoing it.

It feels great to be able to run outside and that takes me one step closer to “normal”. Running feels like meditation to me and helps me clear my mind, refocus, and improve my mood.

For the next few weeks, I will build up my running slowly and improve my cardio fitness.
