Back on the water

353 days since injury
291 days since surgery

Today was the day. I got back on the water for my first Kiteboarding session since the injury, almost one year ago.

I was a bit nervous leading up to it, but I felt ready. I trusted my knee, the physios, and the recovery I have been through. Plus, I had no plan to go crazy. Just a bit of “mowing the lawn” up and down the water, with no jumping or tricks.

There was nothing to worry about. I hopped on the board, powered up the kite and it felt like I hadn’t been away.

This was also my first time kiteboarding from St Annes Kitesurfing Club and it was a beautiful day for it.

The wind wasn’t too strong and I could cruise on my larger kite (15m Duotone Juice).

My dad has supported me all the way through this (as have many others). He came down to the beach to share the moment and take this picture!

In the end, I was on the water for over three hours. I felt strong, stable, and full of energy.

I shared a lot of difficult moments on this journal and it feels strange to be so positive. It feels like I should balance this with some caution. But I am not holding back. I have suffered enough to get here and it feels truly great to be back

Kiteboarding in the Irish Sea off the coast of St Annes.

I am delighted, and even more motivated to keep pushing my strength and fitness. My next goals are to get fully back to my previous levels of activity. That means 13m+ kiteboarding jumps, snowboarding, and running 10km.

This journal is not yet over. Stay tuned as there’s much more to come!
